The smile on Cpl. Ethan LaBerge’s face when he is handed the keys of the 2015 Dodge SRT Hellcat is a beautiful sight. The car was a gift from Jay Leno, the former late night talk show host who went on a USO tour in Afghanistan back in October. During his time there Leno decided that he wanted to do more for those who are serving to protect our country, and he came up with the idea for a lottery for wounded soldiers – the winner of the lottery would be given a special prize. To Cpl. LaBerge’s surprise, he won that lottery. LaBerge was wounded in Afghanistan during a foot patrol with his unit when a suicide bomber exploded near him and two of his fellow soldiers. His two comrades were killed instantly, while LaBerge was severely injured. Having undergone numerous surgeries and still recovering from his injuries, LaBerge was at Fort Campbell in Kentucky when Leno arrived to surprise him. The two spent the day looking at old muscle cars (a shared passion between LaBerge and Leno) before taking a ride in the newest Hellcat, which boasts a 700-horsepower engine. Then, to LaBerge’s shock, Leno handed him the keys to the car, thanking him for everything he’s done for his country and playfully warning him not to get a ticket.
